Why SpecWorks exists

Good tender information depends on many small decisions being made and recorded clearly. In practice, the information needed to describe the work is often spread across drawings, surveys, schedules, standards, manufacturers’ literature, emails and previous project documents.

Under time and fee pressure, old wording is carried forward and gaps are filled with assumptions. The document may look complete while the scope remains open to different interpretations, prices and outcomes.

SpecWorks was created to give construction professionals a stronger starting point: dependable clause content for recurring work, supported by experienced specification services when a project needs more help.

Experience behind the work

Robert began his career on the tools and has spent more than 40 years working across contracting, consultancy and project delivery. He is a Chartered Builder and a member of the Chartered Institute of Building.

That experience matters because specifications do not remain on the page. They become tenders, orders, site instructions, inspections and completed construction. Unclear information becomes queries, pricing allowances, variations and, at worst, disputes.

Practical experience is combined with technical research and careful checking. SpecWorks is intended to support professional judgement, not replace it.

How the work is approached

The clause library gathers the common requirements for recurring construction operations and presents them as focused, editable content. The technical groundwork is already done, while decisions belonging to the individual project remain visible for the professional to complete.

Every clause is tested against a practical question: can a competent professional use it to define the work and obtain a comparable contractor price without having to reconstruct the requirements? If not, it is not ready.

Where standard clause content is not enough, SpecWorks provides specification writing, document review and specification rescue services.
